Grant Proposal for Drone Use in Agricultural Project before the Appalachian Regional Commission

Success!

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has advanced our grant application to the final stage where we will present our project before ARC in Washington DC.

Our project could not have gotten this far without the super support of staff from the New York State Department of State, Southern Tier West, Alfred University, and our students.  Thank you all.

We will need your further support for this final stage.

Fiat Lux!

LAW241 Guest Speaker: Ms. Shequeila Birdsong of the US Department of Labor

Ms. Shequeila Birdsong of the US Department of Labor spoke to Alfred University students on Wage and Hour legal issues.

In addition, Alfred University’s College of Business presented her with its first Outstanding Community Partner Award for 2018 (and a special ceramic gift). Ms. Birdsong was nominated because of the many times she generously visited our campus to speak to our students on the topic of Employment Regulation: Wage & Hourly issues. Her enthusiasm and commitment to outreach helps our lectures on business regulation come alive. Importantly, her efforts assist Alfred University, and its College of Business, meet its commitment to provide enduring value to its students and helps them engage with the business community.

Ms. Birdsong is the Community Outreach and Planning Specialist for the Federal Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division.  She began her federal service with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) where she spent a decade working in various positions.  Her final position at the IRS was as a Taxpayer Advocate.  For the past seven years, she has worked for the Federal Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division.  She was initially hired by the Department of Labor as a Wage and Hour Investigator.  She investigated employers’ compliance with many labor laws, including the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Service Contract Act (SCA), Davis Bacon and Related Contracts Act (DBA), and the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).  During 2016, Shequeila accepted a position as the Albany District’s Community Outreach and Planning Specialist (CORPS).  As a Community Outreach Specialist, Shequeila educates employees and employers of Federal labor law requirements.
